I’ve been discussing this with a couple of people before, but only today did I find hard data to prove it: Twitter is now officially no longer a reservation for the middle aged.
Youngsters catching up.
According to comScore Twitter showed growth Read on…

Today, Steve Jobs announced the iPad. A new device from Apple that tries to invent it’s own category. It’s basically a Netbook/E-reader device with a 27 cm. diagonal screen. Some people refer to it as a a juiced-up iPhone. The prices start at $499 for the 16 GB version, but an internet connection other than Wifi will cost you another $130 per year (!).
Design, Screen, Graphics.
The overall look is slick, and it’s wafer thin at about 1,5 cm, but I’m somewhat disappointed it has such a thick border around the screen. Also the screen is Read on…

Today YouTube launched YouTube Music Discovery, basically a music video suggestion tool, although they call it a “Music Discovery Project and Playlist Creation Tool”.
There is a lot of ambition in a name like that, which I will get back to later, but it can best be described as a way to quickly turn YouTube into a video jukebox with an automatically generated, relevant playlist based on one artist. You select, say, Eminem and boom, there is a page with a playlist of 40 music video’s, 10 of which are Eminem clips and 30 of which are by “related” artists.
Taylor Swift, anyone?
On the YouTube disco page you can click one of the suggested artists, or you can enter an artists’ name yourself. Strange enough, the latter feature doesn’t work in a recent Read on…

Last night Youtube streamed a live U2 concert from the Rosebowl in California. You can still see the recorded HD stream, which has great quality. The playist can be found here. During the live show, an integrated Twitter widget displayed comments from Twitter that were marked #U2, adding an extra layer of interactivity, which was, though hardly innovative, still nice.
PR machine
So, why is YouTube’s PR machine all over this event? We’ve seen enough live webcasts before, right? The truth is, Youtube is far Read on…

By now the first happy few have had the chance to begin testing Google Wave, the service presented by Google as “the email of the future.”
Mediapost gathered some early reactions from infulencers that were the first to test the service:
Blogger Robert Scoble has already deleted his account: “This service is way overhyped and as people start to use it they will realize it brings the worst of email and IM together: unproductivity. The first thing you notice is that you can see Read on…

I Twitter a lot more than I blog these days, and when I blog, it often is related to Twitter. I guess it’s a trend.
Kids
And I swear, if I read any more posts about how Twitter is a failure because “only white middle aged men that work in media” use Twitter, and no teenagers do, I will scream. Where exactly was it written that a product needs to be supported by kids to be deemed “a success”? But I digress.
Middle aged men
For all those white middle aged men that also Read on…

Lists are always fun, but this recent study by analyst the Altimeter Group not only ranks the top 100 brands by social media engagement, but also carries some interesting finds for brands not on there – yet :)
The Most Engaged Brands On The Web study scores the engagement level of each of the top 100 brands across more than ten social media channels, including blogs, Facebook, Twitter and discussion forums.
These are companies that are open to the audience, that facilitate the conversation with their customers, that actively listen to the audience, that talk and take feedback about everything from strategic decisions to processes and product features. In short, companies that “get it”

The most valuable skill in conversation (or sales, for that matter) is listening. If you listen well, you learn new stuff. Then you fit that into the relationship you are building. This is how relationships evolve and become deeper.
Listening is the biggest secret.
Now why don’t companies get that it works the same in any remote conversation they have, with their audience? There is no difference whether you are talking to a friend or talking to your audience remotely, via your website.

This week Dell blogged that it has generated more than 2 million U.S. Dollars in revenue from their Twitter account @DellOutlet. This means that they are up one million since late last year, which was the first time they disclosed some information about Twitter-generated sales.
Growth
Looking at the growth rate it stands to reason that the Twitter related sales on Dell’s sites will probably amount to over 3 million dollars in software, hardware and services in the calendar year 2009. Funny thing is that according to Dell, much of the growing interest in this Dell Twitter account growth was actually not driven by Dell marketing, but by Read on…

Apple® today introduced the new iPhone™ 3G S, according to Apple “the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet”. This thing was pretty much conceived while Steve Jobs was either very ill or had already left the office for his sick leave. As such, it offers us a first glimpse of what life without Jobs could be like for Apple. Interesting. Let’s take a look at the new features.
Big features
The 2 really big features of this new iPhone are improved speed —up to twice as fast as the last iPhone, according to Apple —and longer battery life. I will be VERY interested in seeing Read on…

Here’s a quick copypaste: Hulu Desktop sure looks a whole lot like the future of TV.It’s a media center type of application—like Front Row or Boxee or Netflix or Windows Media Center—that gives you full access to Hulu with an Apple Remote or Windows Media remote or just your keyboard and mouse. In other words, freed from the constraints of the browser, it’s like real TV. The app is beautiful, fast, easy to navigate and simply amazing—everything you’d expect from Hulu, honestly.
There are thumbnail previews that pop up as you move alongside the scrubber, like Netflix’s streaming app. You can queue episodes too—you need a Hulu account for this. There are bunch of different ways to find content: via search, Hulu channels, by studio alphabetically or just through suggestions.
There are ads, but that’s part of Read on…

Jan-Jaap, a friend (check out his blog here), recently sent me a mail. Basically people told him he should Twitter, but he didn’t understand what he could use Twitter for.
Since I use Twitter, and have been doing so for a while, he asked me what he could get out if it. And because I get that question a lot, I thought I’d post the answer here. I’ll revisit it if new reasons come up, too :)
I use Twitter…
- Because some fun and interesting people that I know professionally also use Twitter, and this way I can follow them.
- Because I noticed that some bloggers that I follow, Twitter a lot these days - and blog a lot less.
- Because I noticed that the quality of Read on…

As one of the authors of the book ‘The Age of Conversation 2’, when I talk about it the most asked question is: How do I, as a company, actually enter into a dialogue, a conversation? How do I know what people are saying about me or what they really think of my products?

Working for Microsoft, a question that I get frequently is “How is Microsoft going to still be relevant in 10 years time?”. The answer to that question arrived yesterday, when on a tech conference Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s Chief Technology Officer, unveiled Windows Azure – internet based computing power and services on a scale that only few can manage.
Let me tell you what this is about - and how, in the end, it is relevant for the development of the internet advertising marketplace.

Today, Google leaked the plans for Google Chrome, a browser from Google. Details about the secret project were sent into the world when a comic book introducing the new, open source browser was sent out early. The comic is now publicly available — you can find it here. Google will be launching the beta version of the Google Chrome browser on September 2nd in more than 100 countries.
Why Google Chrome?
The Google reply to this is: “Because we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web.” We may be in for some real innovation, since “We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser”. I’m holding my breath :)
