The death of the 30 second commercial has been declared many times. The TV advertising lobby, feeling threatened by this, likes to point to the increasing number of minutes that people “watch TV” in defence.
However, the recent Simultaneous Media Survey by BIGresearch proves what we all knew. The only way for people to keep up with the information that is coming at them from all kinds of sources is to media-multitask. This means that while the number of TV minutes rises, the attention is decreasing.
Media that offer relevance, can do targeting, be timely, and deliver value to consumers, such as online, coupons/direct mail, radio, yellow pages, newspapers and newspaper inserts all increased in “influence to purchase”. More key findings from the study include: Read on…

According to reaerch conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 48% of the U.S. internet users have been to video-sharing sites such as YouTube, and the daily traffic to such sites on a typical day has doubled in the past year.
The basic findings from the American phone survey are:

The winner of the battle for the next step in DVD seems to be Blu-Ray. Much like the battle between VHS and Betamax in the 80’s, for the past 2 years a war was fought between HD-DVD (supported by Microsoft, NEC and Intel) and Blu-Ray (supported by Sony and Apple). Both high-definition formats wanted to be the next disc containing your HD movies. Obviously, to win this war, the support of the movie studios is crucial - without movies, no disc sales. Disney, Sony, Fox and MGM were Blu-Ray exclusive partners. HD-DVD could count on the support of Warner and Paramount, who released their movies on both formats - but all of that changed Read on…

Hey, it’s a new year, time to make up the balance of what I’m happy with and what I’d like to change, also for this blog. So what makes me happiest? The close to 500 subscribers to this blog, through RSS, MyBlogLog and e-mail. That has grown since last year, probably also because of the switch to English. The little world map in the sidebar shows people from all over the world are visiting. Cool. It’s nice to not just be talking to myself here. Thanks :)
